Bang Union Bio
(R-E-D/Don Woo)

Bang Union is a union of heavy hittin rappers from the streets of New Haven, CT. (ELM CITY) They all knew each other and grew up in the same hood. The first part of the name “Bang” represents anything they do, whether it’s bangin out tracks in the booth, or in the hood bangin clicks, or thuggin it out on the streets bangin w/burners. The “Union” speaks for itself! Bang Union, currently made up of Don Woo “D-Woo” & R-E-D “R”, started back in 1999-2000. The two originally linked up after meeting one day in New Haven. While Don Woo was hustling in the streets of the Elm City, R-E-D came thru & saw him writing & spitting lyrics. D-Woo then told R-E-D to spit something. It was at that point that they realized they were both into music and its been history ever since the first bars.
The two has known each other for a very long time. D-Woo knew of R-E-D before “R” knew of him. Their families were very close & D-Woo watched “R” come up in the hood. On the other hand, with R-E-D not knowing who Don Woo was, his first intention upon meeting him was to rob him. It was back in 1998 when R-E-D met Don Woo while he was on the streets hustling. D-Woo was doing his thing at the time & “R” was living reckless, ready to rob any & everybody he could. He heard the name D-Woo before but didn’t get to officially connect w/him til then. But after kickin it & finding out who their immediate family were, they became tighter than a vice grip from that point on.
D-Woo was born into music by being surrounded by his mom, aunts, & uncles who were all singers & musicians. With his aunt singing back up for Aretha Franklin & James Brown and his uncles playing music all around him, Don Woo began writing his own lyrics. And as he got older it has just been part of his life. R-E-D has been into music since about age thirteen. Liking how people expressed themselves thru music & hearing “Redman” flip on his first album gave “R” the motivation that he could do this too! Before becoming “Bang Union” it was just "Don Woo" and "R-E-D." In 2003 R-E-D wrote Don Woo from jail telling his idea for the name Bang Union. He figured since all the feedback they received from their music was "bangin" that once it popped off it would eventually become a “union!”
It was in 1999 when D-Woo and “Ace”, CEO of Aggravated Entertainment, who has known each other for many years, decided to do a couple tracks together. A year later Don Woo put R-E-D on w/the label and it was 2002 that Bang Union was officially formed. With about 15 years in the game for D-Woo & 13 years for R-E-D, Bang Union raps about the hood & everything they go through on a daily basis. They bring the truth and a new style to the game due to the fact that no one really got to hear the “CT” side of the story. Bang Union is currently working on their second mixed cd and about to drop their first album “The Block Is Us” w/a DVD documentary as well as a video.
