REBECCA SINGS BARRY LITTLE’S STANDARDS
Barry J. Little’s musical roots began as a young boy in a Toronto burlesque/vaudeville theatre that featured many of the legendary American jazz musicians. As the son of the theatre’s co-owner and manager he had a unique opportunity to hear many of America’s best musicians first hand and developed a keen interest in the melodic, harmonic and lyrical aspects of jazz music.
Rebecca Adamowski (now Rebecca Enkin), is a fresh voice in Toronto’s music scene. She grew up listening to the music of the great song interpreters like Frank Sinatra and Billie Holloday. The standards, with their strong jazz roots, became an integral part of her musical maturation. By her late teens she was singing with precocious ease and swinging sweetness.
The superb jazz pianist, Frank Falco did all the arrangements and piano playing on this album. And luckily one didn’t have to go far to find other world-class musicians to complement the songs. They were already in Toronto, each with an established reputation of his or her own. There’s a strong rhythm section anchored by Shelly Berger on string bass, Bob McClaren on percussion, and Lorne Lofsky on the guitar. Jane Fair is featured on the flute, tenor and soprano sax, and Chase Sanborn is sine qua non on trumpet and flugelhorn.
Here then is an album with original standards in the Kern/Gershwin tradition.
