The Blue Dot is the newest indi/loung/punk band out with slamming drums and bass, acustic and electric guitars on some songs and retro piano/synth sound on others.
The band has a horn section that surprizes you when the drummer picks up a trumpet and the guitar player blows the sax giving the band a Bowie/ska sound if you can imagine it.
The Blue Dot has been rocking the Pacific Northwest lately and people are interested to see what has become of Aaron Stauffer, former frontman for Seaweed of Tacoma Washington.
Aaron''s piano style has haunting sounds of the 60''s rock era mixed with an 80''s dance sound on the synth. Then he pickes up the acustic-electric and hits you with a classic loung/punk, pop song that leaves you jumping for more.
On the Drums and trumpet, David Sinclair lays down a heavy beat with high energy. Then he picks up the trumpet and plays a beautiful melody with a miles-esk style. Some compare him to Chette Baker on the trumpet and John Bonham on the drums but what makes him unique to see is his ability to play both at the same time.
On sax and electric guitar, Mickey Kitahara has a style essential to The Blue Dot''s sound. Heavily influenced by classic 70''s rock, some southern rock and California surf rock, Mickey''s guitar sounds like he wants to be a southern rocker who cant stay off the beach. His sax playing is ska-esk and when combined with the trumpet, creates a lush horn section that adds a powerful dimension to the band.
Scott Maurer plays bass and backup vox. His style is inovative and adds depth to the band. Ranging from sonic distortion to new wave rock, when Maurer kicks in the song swings. His kick-back bass player style creates an enjoyable performance.
