ROCK: Modern Rock, BLUES: Electric Blues
Details:
While most bands from Orange County, California built up a hardcore following through screamo-punk and emo-pop, Richard Bivens and Foreign Press have stayed loyal to their combination of indie and blues infused, left leaning, rock and roll.
As their name suggests, Bivens is the principle singer/songwriter, with Foreign Press helping to emphasize the depth and dynamics of the songs. Bivens writes in the "untrustworthy narrator" style popularized by Randy Newman and the Rolling Stones. The protagonists in his songs range from delusional to deviant, as they discuss their travails in a way that somehow comes across as endearing. The music comes alive through an intense combination of determination and showmanship reminiscent of the band''s rock and soul icons of yesteryear.
Their debut EP, "Absolute Beginners" was recorded in San Francisco at Lucky Cat Recordings. The record was produced by Tony Leong and was mastered by JJ Golden (Spoon, Calexico, Black Heart Procession).
