Society has passed the point of collapse, we just aren’t aware of it yet. The freedom that we once enjoyed has quickly become a nostalgic idea of the past—that freedom has now been replaced with a false idea of “security.” And the “security” that we find ourselves under is actually characterized by the very un-secure elements of fear, oppression, surveillance, and secrecy. Our EP “Our Destruction Beginning” takes both a hard look at our present realities and a fearful glimpse into our possible future.
Southern Death Toll has crafted an EP that combines the sounds of riff-driven thrash and metalcore with the urgency and energy of political activism. Elements of Death Metal, Progressive Metal, and Classic Metal add further color to this offering of music. Each song defies traditional song structure and provides ample changes of direction to retain the interest of the listener. Veteran songwriting and musicianship has created music with interesting riffs and skillful intensity, but also in a style that obviously does not originate from a desire to be appealing to the masses at first listen. This music is too extreme for average radio, yet also varied enough to be enjoyed by those with an open mind who may not easily gravitate towards the extreme metal genre. The EP contains only 4 tracks, but is over 30 minutes long, with very little repeating sections.
Southern Death Toll is a four-piece band that originates from Lake Charles, Louisiana, a region of the country that has a distinct and no-nonsense history of metal. We will be promoting this EP as we tour this summer and into 2010.
