Details:
Chip Murrey was born in Abilene, TX and grew up just southeast of Dallas in Kaufman. He worked in his family’s auto shop listening to the mechanics radios playing the old Texas country the likes of Guy Clark, Merle Haggard, and George Jones. Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings became a big musical influence with years of hunting at his family’s lease in Llano, TX. In his early musical years Chip spent his time playing in a rock and roll band that covered music from the rock and southern rock bands of the 60’s through the 90’s. In 2005 Chip finally found his way back to the music made for him, Texas Country. The musical influences of his past now find their way into TUG’s debut album Paydirt and the diverse Texas Alt sound that has become Chip Murrey and Texas Underground.

Chip has teamed with his partner and pedal steel player Paul Sisson, bass player Big ''Ol Mike Ray, and drummer Mike Madden to create a unique Texas Alt sound that is big and powerful and yet holds to his Texas unfluences.

The CD starts off with the passion and power of TUG''s lead off song "Texas Heat" originally written to be a fanfare for the band''s live show, but it quickly became TUG''s "IN YOUR FACE" opening song. Sisson lays down an intricate lead over the rockin'' rhythm and brought home by the seductive lyrics that take you through a passionate affair that is "Texas Heat".

"Waitin'' on a Train", song number two, begins with an acoustic tale of burned bridges and new beginnings backed up by the artistic train sound effects all created by Paul Sisson''s pedal steel.

Next Chip Murrey tells us what he really likes in the blues based country rocker "What I Like" and shows a slick side to Chip''s lyricist''s ability.

Chip''s story telling ability shines in the spell binding "Manaba" a story of revenge. Manaba is a Navajo Indian name for return to war...

Song 6 "You''re Gonna Miss Me" is a story of relationship decisions and the favorite song of many TUG fans.

Dance Hall Girls is one of the first Texas Underground songs ever recorded. The song revolves around the signature Paul Sisson steel lick that you just can''t get out of your head.

Experience the feel for Chip''s East Texas raisin'' and a trip across the state line to the Louisiana bayou in a toe tapper "Who Dat Der" you''ll want to play again and again.

A story about life and its decisions are told of a father daughter relationship in "Wrong Road". Texas Underground creates an ambient mood with Chip and Paul''s guitar and steel break, and a classic Chip Murrey rhythm guitar riff that you will fall in love with.

"GRANDDADDY" is a song about the memories of a loved one that meant so much. Anyone that had a grandparent that left an indelible imprint on their life needs to own this song. Chip reminisces about his special relationship with his granddaddy.

"OK Again" is a song that you won''t be able to get out of your head. Another song about relationships and new beginnings this time with a unique spin, this song is addictive and you might not be able to get the hook out of your head.

The final song on Paydirt is a classic waltz with a tale of a summer time relationship and her memories. The finally is a wickedly seductive steel guitar lead that takes this song up to another level and leaves you with a feel for the Chip Murrey and Texas Underground sound.
