Patrick Crowson is from Brooklyn. If we turn back the history books, we learn that this district was created by Dutch, which was established by the West India Company. The name was corrupted to Breuckelen Brooklyn, which now have fallen and rotting neighborhoods similar to Harlem and the Bronx. The sadness and melancholy is heard clearly in the back of Crowson songs. His debut CD from 2006 received many positive reviews from the Dutch and Belgian written press. "Finito La Comedia" is his second CD. Patrick included help of friendly musician Josh Allen from the band The Meanwhiles. Josh supports Patricks somber melodies on acoustic guitar, organ, suitcase and occasionally vocals.
Crowson has a melancholy and sensitive voice. The approach of the numbers is extremely slow and intrusive. Songs with poetic lyrics without a chorus, but a repetition of words. Crowson''s compositions are open to the examples are Bob Dylan and Townes Van Zandt. Dark clouds are gathering in the title track where the agreement with Will Oldham and James Yorkston stands. Crowson cries for help in the melancholy I Pray For You. These impressions carry you into poverty in the slums of Brooklyn. The dark and austere lo-fi production of Josh Allen certainly press a mark on this record. Patrick and Josh create an ominous and gripping atmosphere. You must want to stand well in your shoes to digest this jewel. Do not say I didn''t warn you!

Finally, it''s about splitting a bottle with Crowson, sitting back and listening to a new song of his weave four, five minutes late at night. There are empties underfoot, a cat somewhere around the toe of your boot. It''s pleasantly dark, but maybe that''s your vision fading. Crowson plays his new song. You listen to its crooked path without trying to follow it. Your head starts nodding, not with sleep, but in agreement, not like for what Townes did when he reduced a whiskeyed-up farrier to a red-eyed mess, but like for what Dylan did to Peckinpah when he sang him, "Billy, you''re such a long, long way from home" over coke, weed and tequila until Sam broke down and said, "You cocksucker, you son of a bitch," with tears in his eyes.
