Details:
THE BARARA BLANCA EP is the collaboration between Jef Barbara (Jef and the Holograms) and
DJ/producer Kid Casablanca.
It is not the first time that the homosexual singer collaborates with the kid prodigy. Kid
Casablanca was, in olden times, a full-fledged member of Jef and the Holograms, only
to see the soft-voiced baritone dissolve the band and gradually go solo, in true Beyoncé
fashion.
It is in full-on electropop mode, provided courtesy of the kid, that Jef Barbara, still
affected by a mild case of Dissociative Identity Disorder, managed to get inside the skin
of a "new" character, whose life story was heavily inspired by a famous Carlo Collodi
novel.
True to the American rap tradition, the EP features vocal guests on each track: from
American lo-fi legend R. Stevie Moore, to Guillaume, Yannis and Mimi, all three being
part of Quebec pop''s nobility through their allegiance to Plaza Musique. The casting is
as follows:
-Jef Barbara, singing the part of the wooden puppet, who aspires to make a career in
Great Cinema. His ambitions are fed by a Lou Pearlman-ish svengali, who makes him
believe that Claude Lelouch is casting a puppet in the lead role for a new feature, which
could put the protagonist in the running towards becoming the next Heath Ledger.
-R. Stevie Moore, singing the part of the svengali, a puppeteer who (secretly) fetishizes
wood in a sexual way. This is the reason why he manipulates the poor puppet. He is also
the protagonist''s adoptive father.
-Yannis, singing the part of the Foxe, the shabby fox whom the puppet meets while
running away to Holywood, the capital of Great Cinema.
-Guillaume, singing the part of the Catte, the scruffy kitty whom the puppet meets at the
same time as the shabby fox.
-Mimi, singing the part of Molly Morgane, the good-hearted fairy who comes down and
eases the puppet''s pains and traumas.
This concept mini-album, which was co-produced by Dominique Ethier (Plaza
Musique), is presented in 4 chapters. Kid Casablanca and Jef Barbara are proud to present
Barbara Blanca.
