Musical Spaces is an album that combines both classical and jazz piano music in a new way. Featured composers are Satie, Kern, Jobim, Copland, Ravel and three pieces by Greg Maskalick. Improvisation is featured on some of the classical pieces as well as the jazz standards of Meditation and All The Things You Are. Each piece has its own unique orchestration ideas involving piano and synthesizers, so no two pieces sound the same. Instead, the soundscape of the CD develops from piece to piece.
Greg Maskalick is Director of Music a Ockbrook School in Derby, UK. Greg performed professionally in the classical and jazz fields for 15 years before going into teaching full time. He has concertised at St Martin''s In The Fields / London, The Lili Boulanger Foundation / Paris, St Andrews Cathedral / Sydney and The Great Hall / Moscow. Greg has also worked with well known jazz musicians that include Marvin Hamlish, Lucy Arnaz, Charo, Tom Rizzo, Randy Purcell and Tim Eyermann. This CD is dedicated to Randy and Tim who both have passed away recently. Both Randy and Tim had a big impact on Greg and his development in jazz.
