GMC is a music producer/rapper from Co. Cork whose tracks on pirate radio gave him huge local success since 2004 with his hit "Not Tonight (The Bouncer Song)" which later peaked at number 12 in the Irish Charts. His following radio hits "Blue Velvet" and "Hip Hop Rebels" became just as popular. In 2006, he released his successful debut album "Diggin'' A Hole", to the Irish Charts. The whole LP which was written, produced, mixed and recorded by himself.
GMC has a unique style which brings witty, edgy and real lyrics over some of the catchiest beats you''ll ever hear. While remaining true to his Corkonian heritage, he never tries to Americanize his music. He gets inspiration from his own life and from things that he sees around him. His upcoming album entitled “Acting the Maggot While Nobody’s (Good) Lookin’” features a wide variety of sound ranging from hip hop, traditional Irish, grime, drum n’ bass and house. In the coming weeks GMC is set release this highly anticipated album featuring "Conas Atá Tú" (a track as Gaeilge), "Slow Down" (a track aimed at urging young drivers to take it easy on the roads), "Girls on Bebo" (a witty take on the world of Bebo and Facebook and the stalkers that it spawns) and "Pump Your System" (a drum n bass club banger).
While studying for a degree in Multimedia in CIT, and later, a Masters in UCC, GMC has managed to secure performances at (this year’s) Electric Picnic, the RDS, Cork City Hall, The Marquee (supporting Flo-Rida), The Savoy, The Spiegeltent and Virgin Megastores, and appeared on various media sources like Today FM, Red FM, 96FM, Network 2, The Examiner & FM 104.
As hip hop is increasingly becoming an important voice for the youth, GMC is also involved in hip hop/rap workshops with Gurranabraher Arts Project, CIT, Cork Music Works and the Triskel Arts Centre, and was selected to be a teaching supervisor for the group of Cork youths who traveled to Liverpool for performances in conjunction with Liverpool''s Capital of Culture year in 2008. He is also a regular performer at Cork''s biggest teenage discos.
Since his first album, GMC has focused on producing music for other artists around the country along with various other projects like: collaborating with the Cork Pops Orchestra for sell out gigs in Cork''s City Hall, writing 96FM’s Summer jingle rap adverts, and working for bands State of Jay and J90 as their media manager through his own freelance media and design business. GMC also produces, records and collaborates with other Irish artists including: Collie, Anto Yau, Nu-Centz, Rawsoul, J90, State of Jay, Kirsty Duke, Bony, Bubba Shakespeare, Brozy, Genesis, K-Snatch, Mathematic, The Navigator etc.
Recently, GMC recorded a promotional track for politician, Alan Kelly’s European election campaign, which got huge media exposure and ranked as one of the highest Irish music videos on YouTube at the time. (Alan Kelly now has a seat in Europe!)
GMC''s latest radio hit which is already after gaining a huge following on pirate radio in Cork city and county can be heard on his Facebook page. That track is called "GMC - A Day for the Beach (Feat. Bony)"
