"...a 14-track masterpiece by the ultimate, slip-shod high school band from your wildest low-fi dreams. " - Parice Grant, https://www.tradebit.com

Ah the good old days of CD-Rs at local Youth Center Shows. In their wide-eyed youngin'' years, Stalemate released Grand Experiment after a-year-and-a-half''s worth of writing and recording in keyboardist Matthew DeMello''s basement with no more than a broken four track recorder, a home PC, some cheap home recording software, and four omnidirectional microphones. The idea for the record and many of it''s songs had been conceived before the final lineup that would perform those songs on tape would be concieved.

"Cory and I actually had the name for the record and most of the songs written before we had the first line-up and practices with the band. On each song you hear a different version of us all wrapped up into one group that never actually sat in the same room to perform. This is because we recorded each instrument one-at-a-time in all overdubs in my basement. So after some people quit their instrumental takes were still cut and used on the final version of the record even if they weren''t in the final line-up. These included various former members we had during our high school tenure: Casey Belisle and Brad Krieger on drums, Richard Buckley on bass and Anthony Contillo on lead guitar. The recording itself I guess still qualifies ''low-fi'' but the whole spirit of it was that we were trying to make it sound as "pro" as possible... while not knowing what the hell that even meant." - DeMello
