These tunes are a combination of my own compositions plus those of pianists and composers whom I admire. To touch you, I wanted it to be a mix of light, swinging, lyrical jazz.
Originally from Australia, Maxine Willan makes Toronto, Canada her home, but there are some originals on this album that were inspired by her beautiful country of birth. Maxine has worked as a professional pianist in Canada for many years.
There is a mix of solo piano, duo (with cellist Kiki Misumi) trio (with Jon Maharaj and Ethan Ardelli on bass and drums)and quartet (Kurt Lund on tenor sax) plus the percussion of Walter McLean.
Maxine came to Canada after completing her classical piano studies in Australia, and having fallen in love with the music of Louis Armstrong, Thelonius Monk and Duke Ellington and a little later Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson, she came to the continent where it all began.
