Details:
NO MONEY DOWN is the new release from the powerful duo of Paul Metsa and Sonny Earl who are celebrating over a decade of making music together. This 6 song EP/CD with a bonus 2 song DVD features the politically charged NO MONEY DOWN, a new Metsa original that describes the state of the world economy with overdriven harp and percussion by legendary percussionist Stanley Kipper (James Taylor, Minnie Ripperton, Taj Mahal.) The boys do a great tribute to Bo Diddley, with an electric band version of Bo''s WHO DO YOU LOVE, recorded just a week after Bo''s passing and features San Francisco blues guitar master Ron Thompson on electric guitar. WHISKEY OR THE RAIN, is a Metsa original that takes a country twist with fine piano and dobro by Paul''s old friend, and jam band THE BIG WU''s keyboard player Al Oikari. DIRTY DISHES (Metsa/Earl) is a fun string band romp in the tradition of the Mississippi Sheiks and features Minneapolis folk godfather Bill Hinkley on fiddle and mandolin. Bill and his partner Judy Larson let a young man named BOB DYLAN sit in with them while he was getting his start in Dinkytown, the folk music mecca of the Twin Cities in the late 50''s and 60''s. RIVER HIP MAMA pays homage to SONNY TERRY and BROWNIE McGHEE, who Paul and Sonny credit as their blueprint and inspiration in a rave up of the Charlie Musslewhite-Junior Boy Jones tune. The record ends with the folk classic HOBO''s LULLABY, written by Goebel Reeves. PETE SEEGER told Paul that this song was WOODY GUTHRIE''s favorite tune. The bonus DVD features two music videos: NO MONEY DOWN, and WHISKEY OR THE RAIN.
