Antitheory is a unique musical collaboration between 2 artists: composer Odi and lyricist Rumel. Influenced by music in the substreams of Europe and the US, these 2 American-based muzos launched a project that is to be the collective sum of their life style and philosphy -- the multi-faceted post-modernist take on cultural mergence and musical deconstructionism. Namely, they are artists of an independent vision that challenges the norm of mainstream genres. Not only is their music a pastiche of carefully thought out musical composition and vocal narrative forging in the end a product of reinvigorating originality, the fusion of styles such as electronica, drum n bass, hip hop, indie rock, and emo are also incorporated. Antitheory is decidedly drum n bass, and then some. Like Swarovski crystals and Kobe beef, the emphasis on rawness and refinement becomes a statement de facto. The significance of belonging to no clear-cut genre and yet definable via experience is the core of this band''s platform-crossing bent. Antitheory considers themselves "fence sitters" in the massive genre pool of pop culture, and rightfully so because they see themselves as an unyielding link to this ever-evolving musical experience.
In the words of post-punk rockers/muscians/artistes Art Brut: "Haven''t read the NME in so long, don''t know what genre we belong, popular, culture, no longer applies to me...."
One thing is for certain, though. Antitheory unequivocally stands against the suffocation of human beings by plastic bags: it should never happen, whether in the form of suicide, homicide, or infanticide. But we speak of plastic bags literally and metaphorically. Remove the bags from your head, breathe freely, and enjoy the music.
