Marice Antoine Kennedy (aka) Lil Dub grew up in a little town outside of Chicago, Illinois, called Evanston. His parent’s names are Joyce and Melvin Kennedy Sr.. Lil Dub has two siblings; an older brother, Melvin and younger sister, Shalina.
When Lil Dub was about twelve years old, his parents divorced. This forced them to move into a small two bedroom apartment, which was also shared with his mother’s friend and her three children. While sitting on the porch of this small apartment, this is where he started writing.
At age seventeen, Lil Dub began to get serious about his writing, performing in shows, and recording in studios. During this time, Lil Dub was able to travel to Montego Bay, Jamaica to perform. In addition, Lil Dub also decided to move to Oakland, California. There, he pursued his dream of becoming a recording artist, and met with superstar bay area rappers such as E-40, B Legit, and 3 Times Krazy. This experience enabled Lil Dub to perform in downtown Oakland.
At the age of nineteen, he was able to travel a little to perform in cities such as St. Louis, Missouri and Seattle, Washington. He then decided to move to Southern California where he could continue to grow with his music. It was at this time Lil Dub met with recording artist Gee Ray, one of the owners of Gregory Ray Records, a record label and Aquarian Services Inc., a digital recording studio. With Gee Ray, Lil Dub has recorded songs that he has performed in Las Vegas, and has been able to release one of his recorded remixes to Kanye West.
Lil Dub just recently finished his first CD on a deal with Gregory Ray Records (CD named: Steady), which is planned to be released in 2006. Lil Dub’s dream is to continue to write music, to record songs, and to make Lil Dub a household name.
