Ministering the gospel in song and word is nothing new for Evangelist Arnetta Yancey. This Brooklyn, New York native, raised in a rural county in North Carolina, is the oldest of eight siblings, where her parents Bishop James Terry and Evangelist Lottie Terry have been pastoring for fifty years. Along with her siblings they have been singing as a family gospel group and with the church choir since her early teens. For over 35 years she has been singing the gospel and has been ordained to preach and teach for thirteen years. She grew up in the church being inspired by gospel singers such as Shirley Caesar, The Clark Sisters, The Winans Family and the Hawkins Family.
Evangelist Yancey, after going through many years of life struggles, totally committed her life back to God in the year of 1988. This became her first turning point, she always desire to be a gospel singer that would travel the world to encourage people in song. She became ordained and traveled to many states preaching and teaching the Word of God. She serves as teacher to Ministers in Training, Praise and Worship Leader and works with her church choirs.
While traveling and ministering the gospel she trusted God to pull her through her personal struggles and sickness. She made her first step in the year of 2000 to put together a project, which included three spiritual hymns and a sermonette. On the day of the project being completed she lost her brother in a sudden death and she didn’t move any further with the project. Over the years, deciding that God didn’t really bring her this far to just leave her decided that it was time for a change. When she let go and really Let God, her life made a complete turn around. God blessed her with a wonderful loving husband, McDonald, who is a great inspiration. She has two wonderful children, Terrance and Latoya Williams and four grandchildren.
After being blessed with a new beginning in life, God began to open doors that seemed impossible and the dream that seem to have died began to live. Because of what God has done, this project title is just what she feels “My Soul Sings”. This new project added to her first project is a collection of soul stirring spiritual hymns and an uplifting sermonette that will definitely take you back to church.
The songs in this project are from people in her past that has been an inspiration and has shown what God will do when you put your trust in him. Some of those that have inspired her are her parents, her grandmother and her mother in law who has already gone to glory.
Evangelist Yancey’s desire is that people of all ages would want to listen and be inspired by her music. It is her desire to do what God has chosen her to do, to bring joy, hope and peace into one’s life.
