Alexey Gorokholinsky is the first prize-winner of Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition, Jefferson Symphony Young Artist Competition and Juilliard Clarinet Concerto Competition. The latter culminated in his NYC debut in Alice Tully Hall, performing with the Juilliard Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Otto-Werner Mueller. In addition, Alexey is also the laureate of International Clarinet Association Young Artist Competition, Buffet Crampon Young Artist Competition, Pasadena Showcase Instrumental Competition, and Spotlight Competition.
Eastern European performances have taken Alexey on tour throughout his native Russia as a featured artist of the “New Names” rising stars series. Performances from these tours were broadcast on national radio and television media both in Russia and USA. He has also been heard on several occasions since 2002 via NPR’s radioshow “From the Top.”
A prolific chamber ensemble and orchestra musician, Alexey has been led under the direction of Maestros James Conlon, Hugh Wolff, Denis Segond, Ransom Wilson, James DePriest, and Otto-Werner Mueller. He has appeared as soloist with New York Solisti, Idyllwild Arts Academy Orchestra and Jefferson Symphony Orchestra.
Alexey Gorokholinsky began studying the piano at age four before switching to clarinet at seven. Currently working towards earning his Bachelor’s degree from Juilliard, Alexey is a pupil of Charles Niedich. He is the recipient of the Bidu Sayao Scholarship, the Paul Louis Berlin Scholarship, The Fredericka Schick Horochiloff Award, and the Mitzi Koo Foundation Scholarship.
