Details:
Scott Shocker Shafer was born in Fairfax County, VA to the press
secretary of a well known congressman and his English teacher wife. The
young Shocker enjoyed frequent trips to Washington, DC landmarks such as
the Smithsonian, the Washington Monument and the headquarters of the FBI
on Pennsylvania Avenue.

The Shafer family moved from the Washington, DC area to Anderson, IN in
the early 1980s to be closer to Mrs. Shafer''s family. Anderson, IN was
well known in the 1970s and early 1980s for it''s GM manufacturing
plants, high unemployment rate and organized crime, earning the city the
unwelcome nickname of "little Detroit". The Shocker gained a reputation
in school as a class clown and troublemaker often getting suspended for
fistfights. Diagnosed as a youngster with attention deficit disorder,
Scott was prescribed Ritalin, but didn''t like how it made him feel so he
instead gave it away to schoolmates who used it for recreational
purposes. Although he has an I.Q. that is reportedly in the 140 range,
Scott grew bored of school and had to drop off the wrestling team due to
poor grades. Soon after leaving the Anderson High School wrestling
team, the Shocker left high school all together and got his GED.

In the winter of 1997 Scott was enrolled in the Recording Workshop in
Chillicothe, OH to learn how to become a sound engineer. Fate had
another plan however, as some of the students were allowed to write and
record a song in the studio for a student project. Scott wrote a song
on bass guitar and also wrote and recorded the vocals. Once the Shocker
was in the vocal booth, he knew that he wasn''t satisfied being on the
other side of the studio glass.

Fast forward to a few years later when some home four-track recordings
soon became the first demos for the album now known as "Rehab is for
Quitters". Soon after he moved to Indianapolis, Shafer was introduced
to producer Jeff Diehl (Gene Simmons, Sweet FA) through a mutual friend.
Jeff heard the four-track recordings and agreed to give the Shocker some
studio time.

"Some people have problems dealing with pain and coping with loss",
Shafer explains. "People back in Anderson pop pills and make
babies...that''s all they do, because that''s all they''ve ever known".
Shafer opines. "It''s a vicious cycle and it''s hard to get out of.
Everyone wants to live fast, die young and leave a good-looking corpse.
I''m not saying that I agree with or condone that type of behavior...but
it exists. When you''re drunk or stoned, you don''t have to think about
the economy, or bills...or that college degree that may have been
slightly out of reach. People party to escape reality...and Rehab is
for Quitters".
