"Hold On To Love" is the second CD by the St. Louis based duo of guitarist Steve Schenkel and vocalist Ashley Mason. This glorious collection of love songs incorporates elements of jazz, pop, rock, and folk music to create a dynamic and sonically adventurous new sound. Multiple layers of guitar provide a foundation for the clear-as-a-bell singing of Ashley Mason.
The Schenkel/Mason duo''s repertoire ranges from pop gems by U2, Sting, and Bruce Springsteen to delicate versions of jazz standards by Bob Dorough, Buddy Johnson, and Jerome Kern. Steve gives each tune a fresh harmonic and rhythmic framework against which Ashley sings with clarity, passion, and beauty.
Steve Schenkel has been Professor of Music at Webster University since 1980, and has been the first-call guitarist in St. Louis for over 30 years. He performs regularly with the orchestras at the Muny Opera and Fox Theater and plays fretted instruments as an extra with the St. Louis Symphony.
Ashley Mason graduated with honors from Webster University in 2005 with a bachelor''s degree in jazz vocal performance. Since then she has been performing at various venues, including local St. Louis clubs, and churches in the St. Louis area and in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Steve Schenkel/Ashley Mason duo has been performing concerts and church services for the past four years. Their first CD, "A Midnight Clear" reached number 10 on the Billboard regional charts.
