Can you imagine listening to John Dowland’s “Lachrimae Antiquae” performed by a modern clarinet? Or Juan del Encina’s “Tres morillas” with an improvised solo from a soprano saxophone among the sounds of percussion, viola da gamba and guitar?
After the last CD “Y”, co-starring José Antonio Ramos on timple (a traditional stringed instrument from the Canary Islands), finalist in the 2005 Music Awards of The Spanish Academy of Music, Andreas Prittwitz, a musician who is as used to performing on classical music stages as he is at world music festivals and jazz clubs, presents his new project, based on the fusion of improvised music with compositions from the Renaissance period, mixing the timbre of period instruments - recorders, violin and viola da gamba - with the modern sounds of the saxophone and clarinet. This project has been performed at several festivals and concerts in Spain and the recording has been available since December 2007. The group is made up of 4 members: Laura Salinas (viola da gamba), Antonio Toledo (Spanish guitar and bouzouki), Sergio Martinez (percussion) and Andreas Prittwitz (recorder, clarinet and saxophones).
The interpretation of Andreas Prittwitz on this recording has been nominated at the 2009 Music Awards of The Spanish Academy of Music as “the Best Classical Interpretation” , together with Placido Domingo and Josep Carreras.
