Onomatopoeia is a word that imitates the sound it represents. Wax Onomatopoeia is an album that imitates the sound of wax. Crafted from gritty samples, crunchy drum loops, soundbytes, and thick bass lines, this CD tells the story of a DJ that lives through the beat. The vinyl pops and production ''imperfections'', happy accidents, and found sounds are the layers and colors in the pallet from which Earl-e draws. He crafts an album with the whole in mind, marrying concept with technique and flavor, for a fulfilling listening experience.
The recordings put down here span several eras in the journeys of a DJ, his record collection, a 4-track tape recorder, a laptop, and harmonica. From sessions in basements and apartments, from Seattle to L.A., to Iowa and Alabama, some of these selections date as far back as 1994. These gems mined from old tapes, floppy discs, and CD''s are masterfully mixed with later cuts from the Earl-e library, and take the listener on a deliberate ride...to where is not so clear, but it is interesting. The beats are made because they had to be made. Using whatever equipment available to get out the sound. Earl-e describes it as, "the dreams of dead machines," or "what the world would sound like if people were made out of turntables and 16-bit samplers with boom box speakers and what their garbage might look like and what their dreams would sound like and stuff," or "a semi-autobiographical analog tale pt. 3."
Wax Onomatopoeia is the third and final album in a a series that includes his debut, Breaka Don, and follow-up, Environ Mentalz.
