“One of the best sequences of songs on an album ever, it flows, every song has a different vibe, I really really dig it…infectious”

Providing a wealth of accessibly dark, introspective bliss, The Drownout, a New Wave indie rock band based in Atlanta, GA, heralds itself as a sophisticated culmination of the entire musical spectrum, with honest and relevant commentaries on conflicted love. The band’s debut album In Flagrante Delicto, which literally means “in flaming desire,” recycles the emotional battles endured by a nameless character that serves as an everyman to whom any listener can relate and understand. The album was recorded throughout the later half of 2005 and early 2006 at Sonica Studios in Atlanta, with Jason Jones, front man for The Drownout, serving as producer and engineer, and was released in May of 2006. To support the new release, the band will be trekking up the East Coast in late July and early August hoping to gain fans and entertain the masses with their infectiously danceable interpretation of indie rock.

The Drownout formed in the Summer of 2005 in the garage of Jason Jones, who is the band’s lead singer, guitarist, and primary songwriter, and Greg Trumbull, who serves as bassist for the band. The two long-time friends had played in bands together prior to forming The Drownout and brought a wide range of musical influences to the table, including jazz, funk, and various forms of retro rock, amongst others. In an attempt to diversify their sound from previous projects with which they were involved, they employed the services of drummer Ryan Landry, an adamant fan of mid-nineties alt-rock, who was introduced to Jones by Sonica studio-owner John Briglevich, and he immediately clicked with the guys’ creative goals. The last member of the band to join was keyboardist Heather Johnston, who had known Jones and Trumbull for several years through the School of Music at Georgia State University, where all three were students. Johnston has a background in Classical Piano, which allows Jones to create intricate melodies and additional instrumental parts that can only exist with the melding of each other’s combined musical interests and training.

A unique feature of The Drownout is not only the band’s approach to creating music that clearly reaches out to this generation’s yearning for an upbeat, yet haunting, sound that has not yet been made trite by MTV, but also that everyone in the band is a formally trained, professional musician. Every member of the band’s heart is completely dedicated to music, which provides the drive and enthusiasm that has allowed The Drownout to establish itself as a promising beacon for the future of indie rock. In the band’s short existence, it has already managed to have its first single off In Flagrante Delicto “Kaleidoscope” put in rotation on college radio stations all across the U.S., as well as receiving attention from commercial radio specialty shows on stations such as Atlanta’s 99X and 105.3 The Buzz. Accompanying the first single is also a music video produced by David Hahn, which has been aired on several underground music video shows. With the explosion of ‘Myspace Bands’ that have overwhelmed the independent music market in the last few years, The Drownout has set themselves apart from the riff-raff by taking a calculated, professional, and highly educated approach to their music making, and will continue to create art that inspires and captivates audiences around the globe.
