Details:
Noah Cornelius is a singer-songwriter based in Minneapolis. His debut album, Love All Over, showcases his creativity with simple chord structures and catchy melodies. Noah plays rhythm guitar, while his backup band adds the flavors and textures of drums, bass, lead guitar, and harmonizing vocals.
Noah has been a musician for thirteen years, playing in such bands as Bruce Cornelius (Gainesville, Florida), and Blueberry Diesel (Minneapolis, Minnesota). In these bands, he performed most of the lead vocals, as well as playing drums. Bruce Cornelius was largely a live band, circulating the Gainesville bar scene for over five years. However, the band did record four original songs together in a basement studio, representing Noah’s first experience with recording. According to Cornelius, the attempt was “rather crude, but it was a good introduction to the process and we’re actually quite pleased with the recordings, even today.”
Noah’s band in Minneapolis, Blueberry Diesel, played a roughly even combination of covers and original tunes. The members of the band intended Blueberry Diesel to be a summer project only, but they managed to pack a considerable amount of productivity into three short months. They played ten gigs at multiple venues in the Twin Cities metro area, including Whisky Junction. They also were able to record at IPR in Minneapolis, where they gained access to a more professional atmosphere; they also spent time at similarly qualified private studios. Noah says, “That was a lot of fun, and I feel as if we stepped it up a notch. On one of the songs that I wrote, the recording turned out so good that I’m actually going to use it on the Love All Over album.” Over their summer, Noah became the primary writer for Blueberry Diesel. He is influenced by such 1960s heavyweights as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Bob Marley, Paul Simon, and many others. Through these influences and his own experience, Cornelius has developed a classic songwriting style that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds. “I once attended a Page and Plant concert,” says Noah. “I saw twelve-year-olds all the way up to sixty and even seventy-year-olds. Soccer moms to strippers, businessmen to Hell’s Angels, I mean a good cross section of America were in the house. After this experience I’ve strived to create this type of appeal in my music.”
That is exactly what he has achieved with his debut album, Love All Over. Scheduled to be released in February of 2010, Love All Over is a collection of fourteen songs, all written by Cornelius. The album has a progressive theme from acoustic to electric, beginning with the title track; “Love All Over” is an acoustic pop tune with a catchy hook. The album comes to a conclusion with a reprise of the first tune, with a renewed drive and energy. This version of the song is an electric culmination of Cornelius’s acoustic work, swelling and pulsing with energy. An appreciative listen will demonstrate just how far Noah has come as a songwriter and performer; it is truly the climax of the album.
Currently the Noah Cornelius Beat is taking the Minneapolis live music scene like a cross fire hurricane. The band has set up a matinee show every saturday afternoon at Downtime Bar and Grill which is located across the street from the University of Minnesota. Only a block away from "Posotively 4th Steet" a location that Bob Dylan kept close to his heart while signing up for classes at the University of Minnesota and hanging out and playing at different coffee shops in the area. The saturday matinee shows at Downtime have been such a sucsess that the Noah Cornelius Beat will now also be doing sunday matinees there every week as well. Sundays are starting March 7th.
