From the liner notes:
"The album you hold is part of both a long and a short story. The long story is that it has been four years since we first started to sing together. Since then Jill has moved to Louisiana, Ben has moved to Boston, Jill has gotten married, I have gotten married, and Ben and Nickeala have had twin girls. The short part of the story is that, until Ben and Jill arrived two days before we began recording we had not played together in over a year and we had never played the songs on this album — or decided what was going to be on the album. We didn’t really know if what had worked before between us would work again. After each contributing the songs we had, culling some, and adding a few others, what came out was At the Table. While at first we did not attempt any overarching structure, on the last day of recording Jill noticed that we had recorded music for a church service. This is then how we decided to order the album, in order of the Call to Worship (Just a Little Talk, Gather), the Word (How Firm a Foundation, How Long), Confession and Assurance (From the Dust, How Sweet the Name), Eucharist (At the Table), and finally the benediction (May God Keep You). In a sense it is no surprise that we would intuitively do this, as we each often plan the worship at our own churches. Nevertheless it was and is a pleasant surprise to end our studio time with.
For us this band is a gift. Our albums are our gift to you. We sing for God, and we are always surprised and happy that others want to listen as well. We record these records so you can listen in. If these songs find you, we hope that they cradle you in your deepest places, give you hope in darkness, help you to sing in joy, and all the while accompany you in your every day.
