"When Snow Falls" is Bob Lamson''s first record of acoustic finger-style guitar instrumentals. It is a culmination of experimenting with guitar over the years and learning to write music with others, and comes on the heels of nearly twenty years primarily playing lead electric guitar. One day, after toying around with open tunings on a steel string acoustic, Bob''s creativity was sparked and he was inspired to revisit his folk roots. He received such positive feedback on his first instrumental piece, Moonlight Romance (written in open D), that it motivated him to compose more original music.
With "When Snow Falls" Bob has forged a unique and recognizable acoustic instrumental style that one listener (fellow guitarist John Francis Downey) described as "original, authentic, honest, and ripe with organic energy. I always feel like a kid discovering the forest, alone with nature when I hear [his] guitar. Snow can be warm!" Inspiration for the album''s fifteen tracks came from a variety of life experiences, some deeply personal and emotional such as the sudden death of a close friend (Sweet Man), some gentle and intimate like the mysterious relationship between man and dog (Rockydog''s Lullabye), and others more light-hearted such as poking fun at a personal idiosyncrasy (No. 925490) or finding himself enchanted by gently falling snow in spite of "just not being a winter person" (title track). For those who like to know the story behind a song, the CD includes a brief write-up of each track.
Bob''s compositions have been hailed as "masterfully articulate" and his debut cd likened to "a double portion of your favorite comfort food - ahhh!"
