When the producer of this recording, Mary Hehuat came to me with the idea to bring out a cd with my own compositions
I must have reacted with a look of disbelief. I seldom play my own stuff. He knows my work as he is not only my oldest friend, but Mary and I have been playing together since the sixties. Before I could react he added that it would be nice to do this recording all by myself. He wouldn''t even support my piano playing with his bass lines. Plus he thought it would be nice that I would sing a few of my own lyrics and maybe add some tenor sax solo''s to it. So, one day he arrived with his son Boet and a portable recording desk to my music room and then all of a sudden it really started happening. I will spare you the details, but after we recorded three tunes, we felt it could work. Mary produced this "Hopper Jazz" recording for my 75th birthday. I thank Mary and Boet for their support, their patience and unconditional friendship. Enjoy! Jack van Poll
