Details:
In 1997 I found himself living in the same town as Glenn Mercer from the feelies. Years before I had worked at a stereo store with Bill Million and we had other mutual friends so we started jamming with Michael Santoro on bass and Dave Weckerman on drums. At first we played songs we all knew and liked from groups like The Velvet Underground, Modern Lovers, Beatles, Stooges, Stones, Pixies, Zeppelin, etc. Then we started getting more serious. I had been writing songs again after my band The Selves had broke up a couple of years previously. Glen and Dave were taking a break from the feelies and Glen was happy to be in a band where he didn''t have to be the lead singer, where he could just play guitar.

These songs were written largely during my lunchbreaks while I was working at Prodigy, the online service in White Plains, NY. Me and my friend Andrew would take a drive and the melodies seemed to come to me easily during this time. The song Homegrown mentions the Merritt Parkway which was a common road we traveled to get away from the office.

After jamming on these songs for awhile we decided to call ourselves True Wheel based on the Brian Eno song, the Truewheel. We even played a few gigs at places like Arlene Grocery and Nightengales in New York and the Court Tavern in New Jersey. We recorded these in a few sessions, two of them being where I lived in North Haledon with Ernie Muhlback and Paul Fisher. We never officially broke up but I moved to Brooklyn with my girlfriend at the time who is now my wife and it got hard to get together. Plus, the feelies reformed etc. etc.

I''m really glad we recorded these songs and that they will now see the light of day. It was all done fairly quickly and lo-fi but I think the songs are good and some of the playing is great, especially some of Glenn''s guitar solos.
