Details:

“Its Wonderful” is DIY indie-pop singer-songwriter Yuzima Philip’s debut full-length album. Following the model of his two successful ep’s “The Cosmonaut” and “Yuzima the EP”, this album explores Indie-pop, rock and folk.

Yuzima started work on “Its Wonderful” in 2009 right behind the release of “The Cosmonaut” ep. Writing and recording at his home studio, The Garret, situated in the historic district of Greenwich Village, New York City, using an acoustic guitar, percussive instruments and group of custom designed synth’s, Yuzima started to create the album he had been working towards for most of his life.

Yuzima is a rare entity. He has chosen to live a creative life. Using his natural abilities to create fascinating yet complex music. His sound knows no boundaries and while that may be enough for your average indie band, Yuzima also has a spectacular voice to back it up. His subtitle yet powerful voice can tell every story he writes and he sure writes a lot of them. “Its Wonderful” kicks off with the post-punk-afro-rocker “Manic” where Yuzima lets a little of his primal side show, shrieking, shouting and singing clever lyrics over an echo rhythm guitar and a lead guitar made to imitate the accordion. “It’s the Music Cupid” is a future pop impressionistic rave-up featuring a robo voice.

Third song and new single, “Speedway 1200” is an Eagles-esque modern blues rocker about a hectic trip to Venice Beach, California. This perhaps is where the story telling really takes off. Yuzima embodies the character of the song. And with the moody music, one feels like they are experiencing the situation themselves which is the mark of great songwriting isn’t it?

The story telling continues with “Lies Lies Lies” and the dark electro-folk of “She’s the Boss”. What can’t be missed and helps to show the other folksier side of Yuzima is “Bring down this house”. With two acoustic guitars, one rhythm and one lead and choral harmonies, Yuzima sings a very touching one of a kind performance about wiping the slate clean and starting again. Yuzima also shows off his emotionally charged, dynamic guitar playing (oh did I mention Yuzima played every instrument on the album). Very different from many off his contemporaries, Yuzima can and does do it all. When you buy this album you are getting a true, honest and genuine talent (no auto-tune here). Just to emphasize the point, Yuzima finishes up with the powerful “Hold” and the sublime folk of the title song “Its Wonderful”.

Why did Yuzima name his debut album “Its Wonderful”? I’ll let him explain, “I want to show darkness and light in very specific ways. But show that at the end and throughout the journey it’s worth it just to live.”
