Details:
Everytime I hear Roy Forbes sing, I am impressed. I remember the 1995 Birmingham International Jazz festival when he appeared with the band of veteran Jamaican saxophone legend, Andy Hamilton. In the open air arena of The Midlands Art Centre, on a balmy summer''s evening with a number of guests, including Andy''s sons trumpeter Graeme, saxophonist Mark and former Art Blakey tenorman, Jean Toussaint.
Roy stepped up to the microphone and I leant forward in my seat to cop a listen. I didn''t have much space so my review was brief. "Roy Forbes sang ''But Beautiful'' which lived up to it''s title''. You''ll find a version of it here and I think You''ll agree.
Roy joined Hamilton''s band in 1986 and received valuable exposure. His first recorded vocal was on Andy''s acclaimed album ''Jamaica By Night'' singing ''Everyday I Have The Blues''. Now Roy has cut his own CD of his favourite jazz songs and his dynamic talent shines through on every track.
Roy Forbes is Going Home.
