"The Sailor''s Daughter" is an acoustic-driven alt-country album from talented singer/songwriter Chris Holiman. This album is filled with moody songs that reflect the time and place in which he wrote the songs. Through great lyrical imagery and a sorrowful delivery reminiscent of Wilco''s Jeff Tweedy, Holiman invokes his sadness with each note. Though the arrangements on "The Sailor''s Daughter" mostly rely on Holiman''s acoustic guitar performance, the album also features nice electric solos from River Roses guitarist Gene Ruley, solid work from Tom Larkins on drums, and great cello and stand-up bass work from Calexico''s Joey Burns . Also stand-out is the electric bass and B-3 Hammond work of Calexico alum Nick Luca. Luca and Holiman co-produced the CD and captured the mood of the songs in stark sonic https://www.tradebit.comether they have crafted twelve great folk/alt-country tracks that do Holiman''s lyrics justice. This album is well-produced and sounds professional and clean. "Ride Through Sky" opens the CD with Joey Burns cello playing a few notes leading into Tom Larkins indian inspired drums and Holiman''s haunting Acoustic guitar and vocals- the tracks production is brave enough to leave the "silences." The title track is another haunting acoustic soundscape that features Neil Harry''s pedal steel progressions in the background. Overall, "The Sailor''s Daughter" is a fitting follow-up to Holiman''s impressive solo debut "Solo Parts." Another great collection of songs from a well-rounded musician. Fans of moody folk rock, alt-country and great singer/songwriters, check out Chris Holiman.
