“Stone Cold Jazz” is a collection of five different jazz styles: Latin, straight ahead blues, cool, smooth and a big band swing tune by Baltimore’s own Chick Webb.
Artists on this CD play on different tunes throughout. Johnny Shaw produced and performs on all eleven tunes. Jesse Powers, Johnny Jones and Dawoud Said perform on: Spain, Cantaloupe Island, Catalonian Nights, Bolivia, Coming Home and Sticky Wicket.
Greg Hatza, Robert Shahid, and Brian Kroger record on: Freddie Freeloader, Alto Madness, Birk’s Wirks and Mamacita, Darius Jones plays trombone on Mamacita.
The big band swing chart was read and performed by: Bennie Russell, Zack Carter, Bennie Cowan, Ben Frock, Johnny Jones, Brandon Brown, Tom Cosentino, Darius Jones, Bernie Ropier and Corey Wallace.
Hanlon Park Jazz quartet was selected to perform a special showcase for top regional jazz artists at the 2009 Artscape, in Baltimore, Md. We are currently a regular at Joe Squared in Baltimore and working on a third CD of smooth jazz original tunes.
This CD is dedicated to my Uncle, Sir Charles Thompson.
