Details:
Born in California, raised in Alabama, Hugh Mitchell has developed a style that somehow bridges the gap between his western birthplace and his southern home. It''s southern charm with west coast swagger. It''s sensitive love with late night romps. It''s love, it''s loss, it''s hate, it''s gain. It’s something in between the life you live and the love you make. But it''s all heart and passion.

Hugh grew up singing and playing guitar with his father and uncles. He was writing his own music by the time he hit puberty and was playing gigs before he was old enough to buy cigarettes. It was only a matter of time before he would be rockin and rollin.

Growing up in Birmingham, Alabama was the perfect place to be exposed to a wide array of musical influences. From country to gospel to jazz to indie rock, Hugh drew inspiration from the rich traditions and sounds of life around him.

A chance meeting with guitarist Ilya Toshinsky at a concert in Birmingham, AL proved to be a pivotal friendship and exactly what Hugh needed to finally get his musical career off the ground. The two recorded an EP together at Michael McDonald’s Lieper Fork Studios in 2006 and Hugh promptly made the move to Nashville. He began playing with other musicians in town, writing with them and slinging pizzas at a local pizzeria. Late nights in front of a pizza oven and after-work beers in pool halls gave birth to new creativity in Hugh. In the middle of blue smoke, neon lights, ex-cons and drug dealers he started writing Heartbreak Radio.

Heartbreak Radio is a rocknroll album recorded by a writer. There''s not any meandering. The songs are short and to the point with great jams, loud guitars, pulsating bass guitar. Queen and Beach Boys-like backgrounds give vibe-releasing changes in the middle of songs but never sound contrived or out of place. He has somehow reconciled the differences between his love of beautiful arrangements and his need for a loud guitar screaming out energy at the world around him.
Heartbreak Radio is about late night women you can''t turn down, love that looks right on paper but never will be, and the promise of something good hidden somewhere in the middle of it all. It is an album about finding out who really loves you, about finding the life that you love, and the things you should get rid of.

There is definitely a theme of disappointment with love and life, but it rocks and turns out a feeling, upbeat and hopeful, about the promise of what he really wants. It''s obvious that he''s searching for something but it''s also obvious that he knows what we''re all looking for is out there.

Pick it up, turn it up, and let it go to work. You will NOT be disappointed.
