In November of 2008, around the time we lost our 100th soldier, I was watching a TV program showing the faces of our Canadian Fallen Heroes, one at a time. These faces included Glen and David. This was a gut wrenching experience that prompted me to write and record the song "To Our Canadian Troops", a tribute and open letter to welcome our bothers and sister, sons and daughters, husbands and wives and moms and dads home safe. Two versions of the song was recorded with the Naden Band in Esquimalt, while the third version included a 63 student choir.
On November 10, I was invited to perform "To Our Canadian Troops" for our current and former Prime Minister(s), the Premiers of our provinces and territories, various celebrities and Leaders of indigenous communities, Military officials as well as 1800 other special guests, at the sold out inaugural True Patriot Love Foundation Tribute Dinner (taking place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre).
The "To Our Canadian Troops" commemorative CD project has the full support and endorsement of Peter MacKay, Minister or National Defence, Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, General Walt Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff, General (ret) Rick Hillier, Wilf Edmond, Dominion President of The Royal Canadian Legion, The Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency, The Department of National Defence, The Royal Canadian Legion, the Military Families Fund and the Military Families Resource Centres.
Canada does not have an anthem representing our appreciation for our troops, their families and our Veterans. The United States has seven! I believe that our song "To Our Canadian Troops" can become Canada''s anthem. What began as a simple heartfelt song written in response to seeing the faces of our fallen heroes on a television special has since snowballed into a nationwide project supported by various government and military organizations and prominent Canadians. Our song now has a viable chance to be embraced and become Canada''s Song, an anthem that will be regularly played on radio and TV, at airports when our troops come home, at Remembrance Day tributes and by school and professional bands and choirs at special events.
“To Our Canadian Troops” is a grassroots unique Commemorative CD Song Project. The CD includes three versions of the tribute anthem as well as personally recorded messages from key government and military officials such as The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, General Walt Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff, among others.
