This album attracted a lot of attention locally in New York from people familiar with me and my music over the years.
After much exploration, I have concluded that I like tunes. Tunes are good. I feel I''ve demonstrated quite well that classical and neo-clasiscal melody and harmony can fit very well into modern electronic music, and that classical orchestration has its place there as well -- if one knows how to do these things.
I feel that beauty in music is good.
Beyond making the tracks as fresh and well-crafted as I can as music, I don''t subscribe to any particular category or style. Some have been concerned about this, have tried to show me how it somehow matters. I am only concerned with it being enjoyable. I got interested in Trance one day, after finding myself listening as intently to it as I usually listen to Mozart. But I originally was inspired to come to New York by the band Sonic Youth! Prior to that I was working in Minimalist musics in the styles of Phillip Glass and Steve Reich, and earlier in Neo-Classic music such as Stravinsky, Copland and Charles Ives, as well as twelve-tone, aleatoric and all that. All of these influences can be heard in this album. However, the point is not the influences, but making it something you want to hear because it makes you feel good. Therefore the sounds and mixes are intended to sound interesting to the ear, instead of trying to teach the ear a lesson.
Do not worry. Future albums with gnarly ripping sounds and impolite beats are on the way. Perhaps albums to which some deep philosophic meaning can be pasted like a poster on a board fence will issue forth -- but only in the event that the work requires a critic to complete it.
But back to ETERNITY BASS. This album is one you can put on becaue it is nice. Cheerful. hopeful and swaggering moods are good. I hope that you will find yourself enjoying my work and feeling good! It will be our little secret.
