Details:
With their 2010 full-length, "We''re in This Thing Together," Austin, TX''s Rich Restaino & The Obits made a conscious effort to make a record that kept the emphasis on fun. The 12 tracks mine the small victories that make life worth living, while not entirely ignoring the pitfalls and frustrations of modern-day life.

The eight-piece band, led by songwriter, singer, and guitarist Restaino, is in top form on this set. Drummer Dave Wylie and bassist Alexei Sefchick hug the pocket, laying the foundation for Restaino''s and Hunt Wellborn''s guitar work and Lloyd Wright''s piano and organ. The arrangments are tight and clean, leaving room for background singers Sara Shansky, Roz Mandola, and Elzie Ivey Restaino to work their harmonic magic. Added to the mix are two of Austin''s most in-demand hornmen, Mark Wilson (Burning Spear, Killer Bees, etc.) on saxophones and flute and Ed McNames (Tribal Nation, Gingerbread Men, etc.) on trumpet. Other aural flourishes include bits of banjo, glockenspiel, and plenty of handclaps and tambourines.

Sefchick recorded and mixed the record and co-produced along with Restaino. The record was mastered by Randy Avenell of The Brain Machine Recording Studios in Austin. Bringing to mind a delightful marraige of 70s UK power pop and 60s soul, "We''re in This Thing Together" signals a big leap forward for the group. Restaino penned 9 of the tunes, with Wellborn and Shansky adding one each. There''s also a song by original Obits bass player and Restaino''s co-Late Fees founder, Zimmy T.

Formed from the ashes of Austin''s doo-wop-punk band, The Late Fees, Rich & The Obits released a well-recieved CD in 2009, "The C''est La Vie EP," and play regularly around their Austin homebase. Although all members work straight jobs, the Obits also maintain full music calendars. Short summer excursions outside of the Austin city limits are in the offing.

Read what some others have to say about Rich & The Obits:

"Restaino is a true polymath: writer, reader, thinker, teacher, rocker. We''re lucky to have him here in Austin. Go support him and the Obits. . ."
-Westy, Big Western Flavor Blog

"Rich Restaino and the Obits — now an eight-piece R&B flavored band with three Ronette-style girl singers. . . have a new CD in the works. Early in 2010 we should begin to see the band on bigger stages — I am liking this."
-Duggan Flanakin, Flanfire

"A cracking EP of songs, it reminds me of the best of Stiff Records ie. Nick Lowe, Mickey Jupp, Wreckless Eric. If you like straight to the heart pop music this serves it up in spades."
-Iain Hutton, CDBaby fan review of "The C''est La Vie EP"

“ Rich Restaino covers a lot of territory, as apt to remind you of Carl Perkins as David Byrne.”
