CD Poetry description
The poetry on the CD was written as a response to my desire to see what poetry had to offer me in dealing with my fate – not ever getting to the finish line with so many of my projects and relationships. I wanted to explore the exceptional resources in our culture, our language, its slang, metaphors, Biblical passages. I have lost my son to cancer, but in my poetry I''m inviting him into my dream life with explicit instructions on what I want him to do and how to get inside my unconscious. I want to reconstruct my dreams, like one I had about my father, a Chicago policeman, in order to understand what it meant to me to be the daughter of a Chicago cop. I have gone through two divorces, but in my poetry I can escape into a dream world of men and animals with powers to enable me to transcend my losses. The music that accompanies the poetry was composed or looped by my son Caleb and because he knows me so well he can provide the emotion and drama that enables the poetry to operate on other levels: pop music, classical motifs, African percussion.
