Mortar and pestle unite to bring you six new Apothecary songs, evolving from a germ of an idea into primordial soup of rehearsal, to the a multicellular, walking CD melding jazz and rock with everything in between. Check your preconceptions at the door and enter a place where musical styles co-exist. The CD starts with "Cold Sweats" as an infectious groove of bass and drums is joined by Chapman Stick and violin in a bouncy melody. A Latin groove interspersed with solos carries you to a soft violin melody and the next track. "Circus of Malice" takes you on a roller coaster ride with angular bass, piano, and violin lines, punctuated by powerful percussion and drums. The title track "Not Just Loud" evolves from a mournful melody into a bouncy 1920''s jazz beat you can almost dance too. "Island Song" features a kaleidoscope of rhythm with wild fretless bass, analog synth and violin counterpoint. "Left Looking Right" starts with a violin/piano duet and gradually builds into a fusion powerhouse. The CD ends with the aptly named "Sumo Sheep Explosion," our heaviest song yet featuring heavy grooves and heavy guitar.
