I wrote "Down To The River" after I spent a week at my sister''s cabin on the Arkansas River, just south of De Witt, Arkansas. Growing up in that area leaves an impression on your life that is life long, and going to the river has a special place in my heart. it''s about leaving the work place, that suit and tie and all the trouble that comes with wearing it, and heading back home to where the alligators play. Water has always had its place in literature as a life giving substance and any body of water is a place where you are restored and renewed. I get restored when I go... Down To The River.
"Just Say Yes" was an idea that came to me after I had taken a class at my church, The Center for Spiritual Living in Palm Desert, CA. I believe that there is an unlimited amount of good that each of us can bring into our lives. I realized that one of the ways I could tap into this good is by stopping that crazy little voice inside my head that discounts who I am and the opportunities that I have in front of me now. I realized that to grow I have to start where I am, and I could begin to do that by just saying "yes" instead of listing all of the reasons something can''t be done. Join me in tapping into this good. Just Say Yes!
My response to the United States war on Iraq was "Let There Be Peace." Writing this song was not an anti-war protest response, but simply my deepest heartfelt desire for there to be peace for all people. In the song I outline where I believe that peace begins. Peace doesn''t have its beginning point in country to country relationships. It starts neighbor to neighbor. Peace is something you express. It is expressed to the people you see driving on your streets. It is expressed in the freedom that you give to others and not just something you expect others to give to you. One can only experience as much freedom as one is willing to give, and likewise, one is only able to experience as much peace as one can give. Let There Be Peace.
I hope you like the music. It is a little hard for me to pick a genre''. I don''t think of my music in terms of where I fit in. Music is just something I express.
