After a career as a classical pianist and composer in the Netherlands, a slightly more modest career as a classical singer in the San Francisco Bay Area, and a significantly more modest career as a church musician in upstate New York, Toon Vandevorst moved to Grass Valley, California, where he wrote most and recorded all of the songs on this debut album as a singer / songwriter in his mother-in-law''s basement. The album sounds much better than this intriguing little snippet of information suggests, and the songwriting is lyrical, quirky, and stronger yet than the three albums he recorded before as his alter ego Tehuti. The songs range from moody and sarcastic to hopeful and positively bright and happy, and Vandevorst performs his songs with virtuosity and a lot of heartfelt energy.
