In her debut CD, Love’s Journey, Cherrie Amour takes listeners on a journey through the humor, pain, excitement and passion of her various love relationships.
“I wanted to share my love experiences and the life lessons I’ve learned, with the hope that it will instigate some thoughts about how we as women can choose a healthy way and healthy people to love,” said Amour. The CD project is collaboration with techno producer/musician Raphael Merriweathers Jr.
About Artist:
Born in the Caribbean, raised in Canada, and based in the U.S. for the past nine years.
An interview with the Artist:
Q. What inspired you to make this CD?
A. My sister Louella, who the CD is dedicated to, passed away in 2004 and she was the one I spoke to about my love relationships. She had a way of cutting to the chase and telling me which direction to take. I started to write about my relationships after she passed so that I would remember and learn from my experiences.
Q. Why did you choose to record your spoken songs to music?
A. I love music and it helps me feel comfortable when I perform my spoken songs. I also wanted to share my
favorite genres of music with my audiences —soul, jazz, reggae, soca and techno.
Q. Who is the audience you are targeting?
A. I had women in mind, no specific age group. Men have also shown an interest.
Q. Were any of your subjects real people?
A. All of them are real people.
Q. After people listen to your CD, what are your hopes?
A. I hope they will take the time to be introspective and soul search as often the love relationships that we invest in tend to mirror where we are at in our lives.
Q. How do you plan to get the messages you wrote out to the public?
A. I would like to perform in intimate settings like retreats, special events or as an opening act for artists — literary, performing or visual, who create using the theme of love. I would also love to do radio. It would be great if my pieces could be featured in films and videos.
