DOUG LANE comes from a large family, most of which are good singers. Doug spent several years entertaining in nightclubs around his province of Newfoundland before becoming a born again Christian, now he loves to sings about Jesus. This is a re-release of a recording that took place in 1983, it has been digitally re-mastered to today’s CD standards.
There is an interesting story connected with this recording which shows how God can work through the power of songs. Soon after this recording was released the first time, a lady from British Columbia, Canada, was vacationing in Newfoundland. She purchased a cassette copy of Come to the Altar and Him as a souvenir. A number of years passed and her husband (who was not a born again Christian ) ended up in hospital, dying of cancer. His wife, who was a born again Christian, was desperate to get her husband saved. She took a cassette player into the hospital, along with a number of tapes of some of the top Christian singers. He would listen for a while, then turn it off. She went home and came across this tape, Come to the Altar and Him, the wrapping was still on it, she had forgotten she bought it and never got around to listening to it. She took it into the hospital for her husband to hear. He played it over and over and while listening to it, he gave his heart to the Lord. Talk about God’s timing. That tape was bought years earlier for just this occasion. The lady in question wrote a letter to Doug telling how grateful she was that this tape was the means of getting through to her husband. She enclosed a copy of the funeral service, he had requested three or four songs from that tape to be played at his funeral. Doug showed me (the writer of the songs and the producer of the recording) the letter. I said to Doug, “it was worth putting out that recording, even if that was the only one sold, a soul had been saved because of it”. We are both proud of how the Lord used us to touch this soul. Every time I tell this story, tears come to my eyes.
