Details:
DAN LIPTON is a songwriter, arranger and ace musician who has forged a dynamic career by effortlessly straddling the uptown/downtown divide. A musical chameleon whose work bridges popular music, film scoring and theatrical projects, Lipton has earned a solid reputation as one of the busiest musicians in New York City.

His debut album TRAVELOGUE, a pop song cycle for piano and 4 vocalists, was released in 1999. Lipton soon taught himself how to play some guitar and recorded an EP called FAZED in 2001. A virtuosic keyboard player who can hold his own over many styles of music, he began performing solo singer/songwriter sets on the acoustic guitar.

His second album LIFE IN PICTURES, a collection of genre-hopping pop tunes, was written mostly on the guitar. Lipton''s own widescreen sonic arrangements create an acoustic-electro-orchestral world for the hooky songs. It earned a 2003 ASCAPlus Award for Popular Music. Lipton also received this ASCAPlus Award for his songwriting in 2004 and 2005.

DL performs and records with the brightest bands in New York City: indie poster boy Matthew Pop, feminist hip-hop trio Northern State, metropolitan folkies Kill Henry Sugar. And with Chicago-based vocalist Colby Beserra, he is one half of Jukebox Saloon, a jazz duo project inspired by the Tony Bennett/Bill Evans collaboration.

He is just as comfortable on the concert stage. Lipton appears regularly in concert halls across the country accompanying acclaimed Nonesuch Records recording artist Audra McDonald. Supporting McDonald, Lipton has played with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic and the Dallas Symphony. They have performed at Carnegie Hall and Town Hall in NYC, Chicago''s Symphony Center... and in February 2006 they performed for the President in the East Room of The White House.

DL made his mark on Broadway in 2000 as pianist for the hit musical THE FULL MONTY. Lipton, the youngest member of the orchestra, played on the show''s Grammy-nominated cast recording and wrote about his experience in the HarperCollins book WORKING MUSICIANS alongside anecdotes by legends like Carole King, Bruce Springsteen and Keith Richards. Since then, he has played on theatrical projects by Nonesuch composer Adam Guettel (THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA) and pop songwriter David Yazbek (DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS).

Lipton collaborated on musical arrangements for DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS (another Grammy-nominated recording), and he has arranged music for award-winning performers across the country: Audra McDonald at Lincoln Center, Steven Pasquale at Joe''s Pub, Celia Keenan-Bolger at Ars Nova Theatre, Brian d''Arcy James at Michigan''s Temple Theater, B.D. Wong at the Hollywood Bowl.

Other recent projects: On John Lithgow''s latest children''s album (Razor & Tie Records), DL played piano, kazoo and helped create arrangements... For Lyrics & Lyricists'' concert of legendary songwriter Sheldon Harnick''s favorite songs at the 92nd St Y, DL contributed arrangements and played guitar, vibraphone and keyboards... He arranged a suite of music by Michael John LaChiusa for https://www.tradebit.comce, a modern dance company founded by Andrew Palermo and Taye Diggs.

Along the way, Lipton has scored award-winning short films including THE WAITING ROOM (directed by Reif Larsen), Corey Rosen''s KEEP CLEAR (Empire State Film Festival) and Jeff Yorkes'' WINNER''S CUP (Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmaker Award). Film scoring is a major career goal, and DL conceived his third album ZEITGEIST as a soundtrack for the film of his life in the aughts. In lieu of a motion picture, it is music from and inspired by Dan Lipton.

ZEITGEIST is a collection of collaborations with today''s most exciting young musicians and vocalists in classical, pop, jazz and theatrical music. Album guests include jazz trumpeter Michael Leonhart, opera singer Valerie MacCarthy, carnival rock band The Misconceptions, Tony-nominated actor/singer Gavin Creel and Nonesuch Records artist Audra McDonald, among many others: 41 musicians, 68 minutes and 19 tracks for 5 bucks.

For a kid who just turned 30, Dan Lipton has already covered a of musical ground and is poised for career longevity. His albums TRAVELOGUE, LIFE IN PICTURES and ZEITGEIST are all available at CD Baby.
