David’s style is wide and varied. He has played, toured, and recorded across the United States in concert venues, clubs, studios, and festivals. Based in the Southwest U.S. for the past 18 years, David has performed in Tucson and Phoenix Arizona’s most notable Pop, Jazz, Rock, Funk, and Blues ensembles, as well as leading his own group “The David Bynes Group” featuring the best musicians in Tucson.
Professionalism, and it’s many meanings were demonstrated and taught to David by his grandfather Bennie Shankman, who graced audiences with his stride piano performances on the New York vaudeville circuit in the ‘30s and 40’s. “Be reliable, put on a good show, and stay away from drugs!” his grandfather preached to David as a child. David took the advice to heart: always prepared, on time, and professionally dressed for all occasions.
David has been networking, working and performing with many Tucson and Phoenix musicians over the last 15 years and can put together an ensemble in a heartbeat to suite any occasion. He has learned band-leading skills from the best performers in the Southwest. He got an early start in his twenties with Sam Taylor, Bobby Taylor, Small Paul, Frank Ace and Lu Rodriquez (currently with country recording artist Neal McCoy). He worked 5-6 nights a week for years in Tucson and Phoenix Clubs and on the Road throughout the Southwest. He’s toured New England as well.
David plays serious blues harmonica, sings, and plays piano and organ. He prefers acoustic instruments, but he has full equipment to provide a professional show anywhere. The mainstay of his performing format is the traditional jazz trio with bass, drums, and piano interspersed with some tasty harmonica licks and vocals. On various occasions David also adds one or several horns to his group.
This C.D. features David''s brother Brian Bynes on drums, as well as Tucson veterans Bobby Elias on bass and Rey Vasquez on guitar. This group is performing dynamic jazz impressions of standards as well original compositions. David has 2 full length C.D.’s in production: one featuring original vocal compositions and the other is a collection of original music for children.
