MP3 James Davis - The Tweed Sessions

Pop rock

3 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Acoustic, POP: Folky Pop

Details:
The Tweed sessions is my latest, and I hope my best collection of songs to date. It was a collaborative work with some of the best musicians in the Utica area.

These songs were originally intended for a recording project with the band Tweed (John Castello--guitar and vocals; James Davis--bass and vocals; Lyman Christensen--drums and vocals), but unfortunately, we stopped playing as a unit because of our other professional committments.

Still, I wanted these songs to see the light of day. My friends--who are my biggest supporters--kept asking me when they were going to hear "the new stuff." I talked to both Castello and Christensen, and asked them if they thought I should go in the studio and record these songs myself. They both said to go for it; and with John helping me work out some of the compositional glitches, and Lyman signing on to record, produce, and play drums on the recording, I was ready to go.

To honor both my collaboration with Tweed, and the hard work they put into bringing these songs to life, I titled this project the Tweed Sessions. It was for Tweed that I first debuted these songs, and they were the ones who encouraged me to record them. So in many respects, I hope that I''ve lived up to their expectations.

I have always been big on promoting the Upstate region, and I have always wanted to be obvious about the fact that I was recording and doing much of my writing in my hometown, if at the very least to encourage other to do the same. So I hope that the cover art for these songs deliver the message that these songs were written, recorded, and performed in the Mohawk Valley.

I owed a huge debt to two great musicians: Tim Ferguson and Bryan Dunlap. A buddy of mine likes to say that I''m a musician ''posing as a teacher in a sleep town'' or something to that effect. Well, these two players are the real thing, as both fine music teachers and top-notch musicians. They composed and performed the horn section on "Go Home." They were a little surprised by the fact that I told them to go into the studio and let it rip--but Lyman can tell you that that is the way that I like to collaborate--I like to set the ground work and ask folks to breathe their own personality and perspective into one of my songs. Jeff Aderman of Modus has always done a great job of this on my recordings in the past (listen to the keys and synths on my album Voice). In this case, Ferg and Dunlap''s work really deserved a writing credit, and I am certainly honored to share the compositional credit with them for "Go Home."

So I hope you enjoy these songs, and pass the word along to your friends.
