With the title cut, he solidifies his place as a unique and seasoned artist. As it progresses, you might wonder if his pick is electric as he takes the guitar to heavenly heights. Accompanied by the contemporary jazz band, CHANGE OF PACE, Stevens puts on his jazz face and looks straight ahead, with a smooth fusion of added flavor. And who has the keys? Deveron Patterson, son of legendary jazz organist, Don Patterson. The rest of this harmonious harbor is decked with Sean Flemming (percussion), Steve Nelson (bass), and Ryan Young (drums).
Currently, Stevens co-writes, produces, and engineers at Morning Star Studios and has garnered endorsements from ESP and Fred Rock Guitars. During this Timeless journey, which also features neo-soul gospelette, Lisa McClendon, he reflects on how he discovered the path that began his musical career.
The CEO of Sanctifly Music Group’s musicianship began recording at age 14 with Divine Praise. He played at the National Inspirational Youth Convention with Marvin Sapp and Ben Tankard, and also recorded with Kim Sledge. As a member of the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) band, Stevens ministered music with Alvin Slaughter, Dottie Rambo, Gary Oliver and Clifton Davis, among many others.
Most recently, he served as either co-writer, producer and/or engineer on the new releases of Lisa McClendon and Marvin Winans, Jr. Stevens also served as McClendon’s musical director for her sold-out 2004 Howard University concert. In addition to national artists, he lends his extraordinary talents to local and independent artists including, Nneka Best (HIGHER THAN I, Sanctifly Music Group), Stan Jones, Cassie Brabbs, and Thomas Sligh, among others. More inspirational contributions include musical offerings at mega churches including the New Covenant Church of Philadelphia, NCC in Boston and at The Potter''s House, where T.D. Jakes is Pastor. He also has a composition on the U.S. Soccer Championship Soundtrack and two jazz songs featured on the Morning Star Christmas sampler.
A few of his musical influences are his mentor, Darryl Johnson, Fred Cooper, Commissioned, Quincy Jones and Norman Brown. Stevens, who earned a B.A. in Philosophy and African American Studies from University of Massachusetts sincerely states, “If I could change anything about the world, I would bring back the sense of unity in family and community.” He continues, “My greatest influence, besides Christ is my Dad.” His father, Dr. David R. L. Stevens is pastor of Christ Center Church of God, in Philadelphia and author of the celebrated book Marriage: The Rules of the Game.
