Digginlilies was founded by singer/songwriter Klaus Heesch in 1995 after disbanding his previous band, Giant Man. Despite having opened up for bands such as the Blake Babies, Yo La Tengo, and Death Cab for Cutie, Klaus has developed a penchant for under-promoting his bands and his music.
Digginlilies have a slew of independent recordings that have never been formally released. Among their many successes, the Digginlilies quietly lay claim to having penned the only original song heard in the smash indie film, the Blair Witch Project. The song "Rigors" was selected from the band''s then-unreleased album, Popula, for inclusion in the film*. The album, popula (so titled as an indication that the band is, in fact, one letter short of "popular") was recorded at home by the band and released independently on the Juicy Temples Music label.
*consequently, the commerciall released Blair Witch "soundtrack" did not include the only song actually heard in the film.
The Popula CD is the last recording by this line-up of Digginlilies. Klaus went on with several of the members to found the band, Gasganno, until he decided to focus on his design career and return to writing under the moniker of Digginlilies.
