MP3 Deconstructing Jim - The Further, The Better

If you miss the gritty indie sound that used to be everywhere prior to the new wave revival, full of thick, chugging guitars, earnest vocals, and sharp melodies, this record is a throwback to a sound before keyboards dominated.

9 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Modern Rock, ROCK: Math Rock

Details:
Deconstructing Jim is Jeff Julian (voc/guitar), Matt Yeager (voc/bass), and Brennen Chouinard (drums) all of whom hail from Chicago''s southwest area. The group is cutting its own path in the world of music inspired by groups like Led Zeppelin, David Gray, Tori Amos and Shiner. Founders Julian and Yeager are two lead singers that fuse political prose with statements on the state of society through songwriting that is still hard indie rock.

The musicians play tunes that end abruptly, rock melodies with verses that fold back on one another. They jam so hard that they get arm burns and break bass strings. In other words, Deconstructing Jim''s delivery is ironically hard to deconstruct.

Julian''s abstract style of songwriting mixed with Yeager''s matter-of-fact form of composing themes from beginning to end comprise a dynamic that gels emotive parts, funky bass, and passages that rock out. The result is music with gusto, music that has coalesced into something that is not just chords, but songcraft from guys who are into what they do, which inevitably brings in fans that are open-minded.

The band spent much of 2005 touring in support of their first album, The Further, The Better (Half Empty). The early months of ''06 were marked by the departures of longtime members Trevor Hoger (bass) and Brian Cann (drums)
for personal reasons. Yeager switched to bass to fill the void and drummer Brennen Chouinard joined the band bringing a heavier drum sound and a strong writing ability.

The group plans on doing more than 100 shows in 2006 and will head back into the studio in the fall.
