Singer-guitarist Chris Karn and his compatriots Jesse Nason (keys/vocals), Dicki Fliszar (drums/vocals) and Luke Agajanian (bass/vocals) signed to Atlantic Records, had a successful outing opening for Michelle Branch in fall 2003, and then recorded their debut album, Battle of Life, with Grammy winner John Shanks and Chris Lord-Alge. The lead track and single "Belong" was given 2 weeks to radio, getting #1 phone requests in Portland, Oregon, before their relationship with the label soured from weird, internal record-company politics. Atlantic Records handed back the rights to the master recordings (free and clear) to the band, which turned around and released it themselves. In one year of self-release, they have seen:
• “Belong” featured in the first episode of “Courting Alex” (CBS), on WB’s
“Beauty and the Geek”, Fox’s “Killer Instinct”, on a commercial for CBS’s
“How I Met Your Mother” and on MTV’s Spring Break and “Date My Mom”
• Myspace Featured Artist in Feburary 2006
• West Coast Tour from San Diego to Seattle in August 2006
They have also released a live CD, entitled Thank You. The lead track from the live album, Tears, was nominated for best song at the Orange County Music Awards where the band won an award for Best Alternative Band.
