LINDA GILBERTSON

With Karen Carpenter as her original adult role model, Linda
began writing songs, and not surprisingly, love ballads became the
genesis of her huge writing talent.
The true beginnings of her current abilities took place in a small
town in Minnesota, where as a young girl, she was given piano
lessons. Although she took to the instrument immediately, she did
not always follow her instructor’s guidelines, nor set down in the
music books. Linda was not a rebel in the truest sense of the word,
but she absolutely knew what she wanted with the music, and it was to be creative beyond what her lessons gave her. After being
somewhat at odds with her piano teacher about this for a period of
four years, she finally quit taking lessons.

Fortunately, her mother encouraged her to at least
continue practicing while she sought the pleasures she knew were
there in the music. This she did, and while practicing she discovered
that she could sing as well. Like many others at that time, she
became enamored of Lesley Gore, and found great pleasure in
simply ‘ singing along’ with her records. Later in her life she would do
the same thing with another fabulous voice, the late Karen Carpenter.
In fact, to this day Linda is constantly told that her sound is the same
as Karen’s was. It was undoubtedly her affinity for that sound that
cause her original attempts as a song writer to fall into the same
category of music…ballads. One of her earlier works caught the
attention of a performing duo whose own career was just getting
serious recognition in the recording industry. They perfected their
version of the song and performed it constantly until that act, like so
many, broke apart. The youngest of the duo went on to become a
major Broadway star.

It wasn’t until about 1990 that she became a serious song
writer, dedicating a portion of each day to the process so necessary to
hone your craft and really understand the mechanics of writing.

In her hometown, someone had built a small, but efficient
recording studio for making ‘demos’. It was during this period of getting her songs recorded, that Linda realized that not only did she love to write, but she thoroughly enjoyed singing as well. As fate would have
it, not only was she originally inspired as an adult by a certain
singer, she also sounded like her.

After about a year of working in the small studio, friends began
to encourage her to seek out a facility that could allow her more
latitude in the sounds added to compliment her songs. This
necessitated frequent lengthy trips to Minneapolis, MN, where not
only was she able to accomplish this, but she also met other very
creative people whose encouragement served to renew, yet again,
her resolve to be a special writer. Finally, she had friends in a very
creative community who assisted her in setting, working for and
reaching her goals and fulfilling her dreams.

In 1998 Linda met a well-respected songwriter-consultant. This
amalgamation of talent has allowed her to ‘push the envelop’ even further, while refining her music and bringing her ever closer to what is considered ‘hit’ material.

Linda now uses facilities located in California to record her
material, and is well on her way establishing relationships that will
serve her…and her music…very well.

In 2000, Linda was given the opportunity to write the theme song for the Producers Guild Awards held in Los Angeles. She also wrote “Angels in the Snow”, the title song for a movie in preproduction.
Linda also performed at a film festival, has showcased her music, and has been the pianist for many special events. Recently, she completed a new song entitled “Meant To Be” which will appeal to anyone who has fallen in love.

The voyage from a small town in Minnesota to a very large city
in California is only hours by plane, but it can seem like a lifetime to
someone whose only desire is to have her music appreciated.
