The Merry-Go-Round of Life is classic R&B with Smooth Jazz and spiritual overtones. There is a story behind each song, including the two instrumentals, Inside and Return.

In an interview dated 3/24/2006 with Delta Bluhe, Lafayette states, “The songs are about the things that we encounter in life, which I refer to as ''the merry-go-round of life'', such as love, consequences for our actions, and spiritual awakenings.” According to the interview, one of Lafayette’s favorite songs on this CD is Love Wait, which “…was inspired by those times in my life when I allowed very important relationships to suffer for various reasons. The song actually brought me to tears at times as I thought about how I will never get the opportunity on this side of glory again to share with those that have passed.”
